Islam Does not have a Monopoly on Bad Guys

“My religion may not be perfect but at least we don’t kill innocent people.” When spoken by Christians is not only an arrogant statement — it’s patently false.
Christians are incorrect in thinking Islam has a monopoly on crazy — Christians kill people all the time and we include our share of crazy people.
The Lords Resistance Army of Uganda, who are Christian, cut people’s heads and arms off if they don’t convert, a few years ago Anders Brievik, a radical Christian in Norway killed 77 people and Slobodan Milosovec, a Christian, killed 100,000 people (mostly Muslims) because he believed the Christian thing to do was ethnic cleansing.
By the way, let’s not also forget George W Bush who said that “God told me to” remove Saddam from power…an act which cost the lives of over 100,000 innocent people including children. How would we react if another leader from another country and religion said that “God told him to” invade a country and kill people by the tens of thousands?
Fact is, the world is a big place. We Christians may not feel we have anything in common with crazy extremist Christians in Norway or Uganda…and that’s exactly the point. We are not monolithic and neither is Islam. Islam has their share of problems: a high percentage of oppressive governments, limitation on rights, violence and other issues. But we should be careful about judgement, especially when we are not without sin as well.
