University of Miami Revises MBA Programs for Executives, Working Professionals
Students Can Now Customize Curriculum with Broad Range of Electives
CORAL GABLES, Fla., Aug. 10, /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The University of Miami School of Business Administration today announced a significant revision to its long-running Executive MBA and MBA for Working Professionals programs, enabling students to customize their curriculum with a wide range of elective courses. Students in both programs will continue to matriculate and graduate as a cohort, but during two terms they will take six electives. Prior to the elective terms, all students will vote from among more than 40 electives and those that are in most demand – up to 16 electives – will be offered. From those, each student will select six electives to be taken over the two elective terms.
“The elective choices will enable students to pursue special areas of study – such as marketing, finance and international business – so that they can design their curriculum to best meet their own professional growth and career goals,” said Barbara Kahn, dean of the University of Miami School of Business Administration. “And because students will take electives with students outside of their cohorts during these terms, they will have the added opportunity to expand their professional networks beyond those with whom they are in class during the bulk of the program.”
“We are responding proactively to demands from business professionals to further their knowledge and skills in the fields they are in currently or wish to be in,” said Anuj Mehrotra, vice dean for graduate business programs at the School of Business Administration. “Innovation is the key to keeping our executive and working professionals programs relevant and on the leading edge.”
The School’s Executive MBA program, among the nation’s longest running, is designed to develop critical thinking skills, improve decision-making abilities and enhance functional and strategic skills for conducting business. Participants have an average of 13 years experience with seven years of management experience. Classes meet on Saturdays for 23 months. The School’s MBA for Working Professionals program is designed for professionals with three to seven years of work experience who aspire to pursue a career in business or would like to strengthen their knowledge and skills in the fundamental disciplines of business. Classes meet on Monday evenings and Saturday mornings, also for 23 months.
The School first offered its Executive MBA program in 1973. Since then the School has expanded the program to include off-site programs across the state of Florida and in the Caribbean. Current off-site locations include Palm Beach, Fla., and San Juan, Puerto Rico. The School also delivers an on-campus Masters of Science and Executive MBA program taught entirely in Spanish.
